If you know anything about the flourishing Alté scene, you've most likely heard of Ghanaian singer, songwriter, producer, and engineer Amaarae. She's been popping up in features & steadily dropping her own works (including singles plus an EP), and has gifted us with her first full length project titled THE ANGEL YOU DON'T KNOW.

Categorized as 'Afro Pop', THE ANGEL YOU DON'T KNOW incorporates many genres ranging from Afro beat/ pop and R&B to rap/ hip hop with a pinch of rock. It sounds a bit chaotic yet Amaarae manages to bob and weave effortlessly through each track, creating an engulfing and ever changing atmosphere along the way.

"D*A*N*G*E*R*O*U*S" is a short, palate cleansing intro that demands your attention with its distorted guitar riffs and raw vocals. Second track "FANCY" maintains the intro's high energy on a more mellow note, followed by "FANTASY", featuring Ckay & Maesu and "LEAVE ME ALONE" produced by Kristina Si & Kuvie. Two tracks that compliment each other well and can only be described as etheric Afro bops.

"JUMPING SHIP", featuring Kojey Radical & Santi, continue this groove with an inciting rhythm and floating guitar supplied by Kzdidit & KYU Steed. "FEEL A WAY" follows with beautiful features by Moliy & Princess Adjua and another alluring instrumental by John Wav & Jesse Alordiah.

Half way through, "TRUST FUND BABY"'s spacey indie beat provides a release from the previous afro rhythms. This break continues with the next three tracks, first being playful "HELLZ ANGEL" and the next being "CÉLINE" featuring 6 & KYU Steed. The album progresses into nostalgic R&B-ish vibes with the help of Kzdidit & Yellow Shoots on "DAZED AND ABUSED IN BEVERLY HILLS".

THE ANGEL YOU DON'T KNOW concludes with four more mesmerizing afro beats starting with "SAD, U BROKE MY HEART" and "3AM". Personal favorite, "SAD GIRLS LUV MONEY" follows bringing a churning rhythm and mystic melodies (by Yinka Bernie) and finally concludes with "PARTY SAD FACE/ CRAZY WURLD" featuring Odunsi. A whimsical cool down with a contrasting energetic outro, brining us full circle.

The album can't be summed into words, THE ANGEL YOU DON'T KNOW is an immersive excursion you'll just have to experience for yourself.
